The Ancient race of Hobbits, otherwise known to Men as Halflings, can always be distinguished by their large feet with leathery soles, covered with curly hair. Most Hobbits are rather fat, with shortish legs, long brown fingers and slightly pointed ears, which make them good at listening even if it’s the slightest sound. Although, Hobbits are unable to grow facial hair, there is no problem in them growing their bellies.
You’d think having big feet that they would be noisy, well no, in fact they are still able to move around very quickly, quietly and skillfully, even walking around in the thickest forest or on the stoniest ground.
Hobbits dwell in hobbit-holes, known as Smials.

The name “Hobbit” is derived from the Rohirric word, Holbytla, a work which means “Hole-builder”. In the original Common Speech, the name was Kuduk (Hobbit), derived from the actual Rohirric Kûd-dûkan (hole dweller).
While they may not be that tall in size, (3 feet in height, although some have been known to reach extraordinary heights of 4 feet, and some as short as 2 feet), they are neither broad nor strong like Dwarves. Hobbits have their own hidden strengths and skills of their own.

Hobbits like to dress in the colors of the natural world around them (i.e. grass-green, dandelion-yellow, gold’s and reds of autumn leaves, sky blue and night blue). Men will wear jackets and breeches of velvet and brocade and waistcoats with brass buttons. For the ladies, they choose sprigged cotton dresses with full skirts and petticoats embellished with embroidery and lace. You could describe their dress sense as sensible, smart and practical.
Hobbits are a cheerful, unobtrusive folk, who are unadventurous by nature. They prefer the comforts of home, whether it is relaxing in the sun on the doorstep and watching the cows munch on grass or chat about the weather, or enjoying a good smoke on the pipe-weed with their feet up in front of the fire at the Green Dragon Inn.
Another hot topic of the Hobbits is food. There’s always a fresh pot of tea brewing, or some delicious cakes that have just been baked. Perfect if visitor’s come calling and would like a little something to nibble on. Hobbits have at least several meals a day, and are extremely fond of mushrooms. They believe mealtimes should be shared, especially with good friends. And also, there would be more often than not, singing. Hobbits don’t eat unusual food, they are very partial to all manner of seedcakes and apple tarts, to pork pies and mince pies, to bread and butter and cream, nuts and honey, chicken and pickle, roast beef and mutton stew, and all sorts of ale, cider, porter and beer.

A young Hobbit may be found causing trouble, or off mushroom scavenging, hunting them from the farmers’ fields and pocketing them.
At the age of 33, is when Hobbits believe you have matured and become an adult, compared to a Man’s 18 years. Thus, a 50 year old Hobbit would only be middle-aged. On a Hobbits birthday, they like to give and receive presents.
Among food; farming, ales and parties is another of the Hobbits favorite things to do. With all these comforts, they are ignorant and know very little of the happenings of the world.

Gandalf finds the race of Hobbits the most fascinating race in Middle-earth, and is always there visiting or showing off his fireworks. He believes Hobbits are worth saving from the horrors of the Dark Lord’s rule
At the end of the stories, it’s in fact the Hobbits that had some of the biggest adventures, and in the War of the Ring, decide the fate of Middle-earth. And as Gandalf says “There’s more to them than meets the eye”
