BIOGRAPHY
Loyal gardener, best friend and loyal companion of Frodo, Mr Gamgee was a quiet, solid and dependable type of Hobbit. Sam enjoys a good smoke of pipe-weed and a flagon of the finest Shire ale while listening to the chatter of others. And along with the other Hobbits, he has a great appetite, which is shown by the size of his stomach.
The youngest son to Hamfast ‘Gaffer’ Gamgee and Bell Goodchild (Whom had many sons and daughters) spent his life in and around the village of Hobbiton, exploring the neighborhood areas of the Shire with his friends, on mushroom-gathering expeditions and vegetable-raiding forays. He never went any further, until the Quest of the Ring.
He was always entranced by Bilbo, his mentor, and his stories. It was Bilbo that grabbed Sam’s fancy for the Elven race. He has a love for Elves, a gift for poetry and a belief that the world contains great wonders than most Hobbits were aware of, which set him apart from the beginning.

As ‘punishment’ for eavesdropping on Gandalf’s conversation with Frodo regarding the dangers of the One Ring, Sam was chosen to be Frodo’s companion on his journey to Rivendell. When the fellowship broke at Amon Hen, and realized Frodo was going to Mordor alone, he ran to the boat and continued along the Quest.
It was Sam, the most loyal of the fellowship that played a necessary role in protecting Frodo and destroying the One Ring. Sam wasn’t that brave, or skilled with a sword. But Sam loves Frodo and wanted to protect him, and Frodo is extremely protective of Sam.
Sam saved Frodo’s life on many occasions with merely a Barrow-blade sword, a frying pan and rocks for throwing. There was one occasion where Sam used Frodo’s sword, Sting, after the attack by Shelob. At this point, when Frodo was carried away, Sam was the Ringbearer for a time.

Sam stuck with Frodo till the end of the journey, all the way to Mount Doom.
He was always shy to speak to Rosie first, even after his friends encouraged him. But after coming back from Mordor, he seemed to have confidence, and thus ended up marrying Rosie and having thirteen children.
Frodo, before heading to the Grey Havens, left Sam with the Red Book of Westmarch and the household of Bag End, where he and his large personal family, later called the Gardners, would live for many years.
After Will Whitfoot resigned the post as Mayor in SR 1427, Sam was elected Mayor of the Shire for seven consecutive 7-year terms.

In the Appendix D of The Lord of the Rings it is mentioned that the Westron form of Sam's name is Banazîr Galbasi (also spelled Galpsi). Banazîr comes from elements meaning "halfwise" or "simple". Galbasi comes from the name of the village Galabas. The name Galabas uses the elements galab-, meaning "game", and bas-, corresponding somewhat to "-wich" or "-wick". Tolkien's English translation, Samwís Gamwich, could have come to Samwise Gamgee in modern English. Sam is also known as Perhael in Sindarin. As ‘punishment’ for eavesdropping on Gandalf’s conversation with Frodo regarding the dangers of the One Ring, Sam was chosen to be Frodo’s companion on his journey to Rivendell.
