QUICK BIO
BIOGRAPHY
Stephen Hunter was unwittingly cast as ‘the clown’ from a young age. He quickly developed a great sense of comic timing, and a reputation as the ‘go to’ funny guy.
It is his comedic ability that has Hunter in high demand on screen in both New Zealand and Australia. Stints on Nickelodeans The GO Show and ABC's Review with Miles Barlow only confirmed that status.
He began his acting career on New Zealand television before moving to Australia, where he became Sharpie, in the award-winning drama series, Love My Way (2006). He subsequently appeared in the medical drama, All Saints (2008), and displayed his comedic talents on the satirical Review with Myles Barlow (2010) and Nickelodeons The GO Show.
Hunter is a keen and budding fan of the Lord of the Rings, he had read the books, seen the extended cuts, and all the behind the scenes footage. He really wanted to be involved with The Hobbit.

It was Hunter’s agent, that put him forward for The Hobbit, and then he received a call to audition in Auckland.
He did a lot of prep work for the audition including growing a shaggy beard, letting his hair grow out, wore an old ripped-up shirt and put everything into making an excellent audition.
Three months later, after Hunter was out with his mates in Wellington he got a call in the morning with an offer to portray Bombur.
Stephen Hunter’s daughter, Rosie, was born after he got the role.
He had a full prosthetic outfit that covered all of his face (apart from the eyes) and wore a huge body suit underneath his costume. He found the prosthetic uncomfortable to start with, but as it was made of foam it was bulky rather than heavy or uncomfortable, and it did get rather hot underneath it all.
Hunter consumed a lot of liquid to keep hydrated, and wore a cool-vest piped through with iced water.
Stephen Hunter has also done voice-over work for some of Australia and New Zealand’s top companies and products.
Hunter is currently residing in Sydney, Australia and keeps himself sharp for the next role with regular “Meisner” training at The Actors Pulse in Redfern.
