But following his death when he was 13, he found out the truth. His father was in fact, a family friend and partner of Sonia, Harry Saul Bloom, a principal of the Concorde International Language School. He was made Bloom’s legal guardian immediately. Bloom established lead roles in Elizabethtown and appeared in ensemble films such as New York, I Love You (2008) and Main Street (2010). But his film debut was starring opposite Stephen Fry in Wilde (1997)
Around the same time as shooting Rings, Bloom played a brief role in the war film, Black Hawk Down (2001), as PFC. Todd Blackburn.
While he was shooting Rings, he broke a rib after falling off a horse, but eventually recovered and continued shooting. This wasn’t his first, or his last injury. In fact, Bloom has sustained several injuries: he broke his left arm and cracked his skull three times, broke his nose while playing rugby union, broke his right leg skiing in Switzerland, broke his left leg in a motorbike crash, and broke his right wrist while snowboarding. He also broke his back when he slipped trying to reach a roof terrace of a friend's house and fell three floors.

Bloom was part of the ensemble for the films when they were nominated or won. He, along with the other 8 members of the Fellowship (except John Rhys-Davies) got the Elvish-word ‘nine’ tattooed on his right wrist, written in letters of the fictional Tengwar Elvish script, a reference to his participation in the films and as one part of the Fellowship. He also has a tattoo of a sun on his lower left abdomen, which he got when he was 15, just before he moved to London.
Bloom wanted to become a stage actor after graduating from the Guidhall School of Music and Drama, so he decided he would pursue that dream after At World’s End (2007).
A few years later, when he least expected it, Sir Peter Jackson offered him the chance to come back and reprise his role as Legolas in The Hobbit trilogy.
Bloom is a practicing Buddhist, has been a member of Global Green, an environmental company, since 2000s and had an ‘on and off’ relationship with actress Kate Bosworth between 2003 to 2006.
