BIOGRAPHY
The Scottish film and stage actor and musician is the son to William and Mary Boyd, who died, a year apart, in Boyd’s early teens. Boyd was brought up, with his older sister, Margaret, by their grandmother.
Boyd worked as a book-binder for seven years (he even bound The Lord of the Rings), before pursuing a career in acting. He graduated from the Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where he earned a diploma in Dramatic Arts.
He holds a Grade 7 in foil fencing, and also trained in martial arts at the Krauseworld Academy in Glasgow.
While on the set of The Lord of the Rings, he and fellow co-stars, got a tattoo of the Elvish word ‘nine’ in Tengwar script to commemorate his involvement and also as a member of the Fellowship. To this day, he remains close friends with Dominic Monaghan, together writing a script. There are currently no plans for it to be made as of yet.
Boyd’s been in several plays, most recently San Diego and The Ballad of Crazy Paola, and he has toured in the musical Sunshine on Leith. Recently, Boyd performed at the Dundee Repertory Theatre as the role of Davie in Sunshine on Leith, as well as in Long Hong Jimmy.

Besides acting, Boyd has a passion for music. An accomplished musician, singer and also plays the guitar, drum and bass. He is the lead singer and co-songwriter for the band, Beecake, which also features John Crawford, Billy Johnston and Rick Martin. Beecake has topped some of the international MySpace charts. The band was recently awarded VisitScotland’s award for Best Live Act at the Tartan Clef Music Awards, and have recently released their new album ‘Soul Swimming’.
