"AYE, THE WILD IS NO PLACE FOR GENTLE FOLK WHO CAN NEITHER FIGHT NOR FEND FOR THEMSELVES"
QUICK BIO
BIOGRAPHY
Dwalin is Balin’s brother, and is part of Durin’s royal line and is the senior member of the Company.
Dwalin is one of Thorin’s closest friends and fiercest supporters; they grew up as childhood friends, but is some years older than Thorin. Together, they have shared the bitter travails of exile and plenty of hard action, having fought their way through innumerable Goblins and Orcs. Dwalin maintains an unshakeable belief in his friend’s leadership.
When Dwalin was younger (with a mohawk) he fought alongside Thorin and Balin at the Battle of Azandlbizar, duelling with Bolg, son of Azog.
Dwalin doesn’t trust strangers easily, especially if they’re Elves. He isn’t the friendliest member, but he is commited to the Quest. To earn his trust and respect is a hard task for anyone to achieve.
Dwalin is blunt, proud, brave, always loyal and firmly believes Throin will become King under the Mountain.

The veteran fighter developed a ritual of memorializing every significant episode in his life with a new tattoo – on his arms and hands, and even across his scalp, the tattoos take the form of ancient Dwarvish runes. They are a pictorial history of his people, rites of passage, and tokens’ commemorating what has happened to the Dwarven race.
Dwalin is heavily armed bearing an enormous war-hammer and a pair of brutal knuckle-busters. He also carries a wickedly pair of war-axes, which he carries upon his back. He names his war-axes Grasper and Keeper, for the first axe will grasp the soul of an opponent, while the second one will keep it. His weapons are utilitarian, rather than decorative. Dwalin takes excellent care of his fine weaponry, since his life depends on them. And through his weapons, he has saved his life and the lives of others on numerous occasions, as the many scars on the blades can testify. He cherishes every nick and scratch, since each marks the death of an enemy.

Dwalin does not suffer fools gladly, nor is he the most loquacious of the Company, leaving the talking to his brother, Balin. Dwalin prefers to let his weapons do the talking for him, and he loves letting them chatter loudly.
Dwalin is the first to arrive at Bag End at the beginning of An Unexpected Journey.
He loans his spare hood and cloak (both dark-green) to Bilbo, who, after the adventure, keeps them “locked up as if they were something precious” until he wears them again when leaving the Shire at the beginning of The Lord Of The Rings.
Dwalin fought in and survived the Battle of the Five Armies. Afterwards, he received his 14th share and chose to live in Erebor under Dáin II Ironfoot.
Dwalin lived a particularly long time, he died of natural causes at the age of 340.
